So this week the Big Green Space team travelled south to install a summerhouse. Maybe not the best week weather-wise to be undertaking such a journey, but the M4 and M25 were relatively easy going and the general mood was good. After absolutely no snow in South Pembrokeshire at all it was quite nice to be seeing some of the white stuff at last. However, all was soon to change...
On the first morning both vans got stuck in the snow in one of the country lanes leading to the customer's property. Eventually a taxi passed and towed them out. Once unloaded at their destination, the team then had to find a local builder's merchants, which resulted in the van getting stuck once again and having to be towed out. Safely back on site the going was tough, as much effort was expended digging in frozen ground to make the holes to concrete the corner posts into. Then a snowstorm arrived and the daylight slowly dwindled away. All slept well that night.
On day two the team rose early and made a good start on site. However in their haste they had forgotten to bring any lunch with them so were soon extremely cold and hungry. Falling snow made them reluctant to leave site in case they couldn't get back, so they decided to go without. However those in the warm, dry office back in Pembrokeshire decided this really wouldn't do and so found a pizza company in Tunbridge Wells who were prepared to make the journey to site to deliver. Two hours later the pizza was delivered, but the delivery guy's car had got stuck in the snow so he had walked the last two miles to make the delivery. Wonderful service from the pizza company, just unfortunate that the pizza was now stone cold and soggy, much like the team in fact.
Day three started with a trip to a window manufacturer in Croydon and by the time the team reached site it was lunchtime. This night they were booked into a hotel 23 miles away, a journey which took 2 hours because of more snowstorms during rush hour. This was the low point when all senses of humour failed.
By the end of day four the team were back in Pembrokeshire, worn out but extremely pleased with the end result. And the lesson to be learned here is that if you are looking for a superior garden building installed by a first class team then you need to get in touch with us at Big Green Space.
